Many people ask, “So, how does Convention actually work?” Here is a response that you might find helpful prior to your arrival.
Connected Communication
“If you want to know, you need to belong!”
General information about gathering times will be shared usually by Uncle Ike, or Paul from the outreach truck. The smaller details or slight changes are generally found out by word of mouth and conversations with one another. We don’t have an hour by hour schedule for convention but generally we will have
- a time of prayer together in the mornings
- a ministry / bible teaching gather mid morning before lunch
- kids outreach programme after lunch
- early evening / late afternoon dinner
- evening outreach
- fellowship and supper back at camp
The majority of communication takes place through close relationship, turning up, and participating in the life of the river convention. Setting up, packing up, clearing rubbish, washing dishes, cleaning bathrooms, praying together, giving people a lift, sitting around the fire are all opportunities to find out what’s going on. Being connected, together is the best source of communication.
Camping / Living Arrangements
Everyone is responsible for their own living and camping arrangements during convention. Please be mindful of each others privacy. If children are apart of your family or group you are attending with, you are responsible for their safety and knowing their whereabouts at all times. This includes age-appropriate supervision while using the bathroom / showers, and making sure they do not go into other people’s tents, caravans, units or motel rooms at ANY time.
Please ensure that when you leave a camping spot you have picked up all your rubbish and returned your area to a better condition than when you first arrived.
Serving Together
If you’re not sure what to do, one of the best questions you can ask is, “What can I do to help?” We can all help in some way during the convention. Praying while the evening outreach is happening. Washing up after meals. Welcoming local community visitors.
Uncle Ike is the leader for the services, and he will put in place other leaders if he is unavailable. Participation by way of providing a testimony, song or gospel message is by invitation.
This information has been shared with permission from leaders and elders in the Josiah Healing Centre community.
